When your baby arrives, everyone rushes to see the newborn. But what about you, mama?
The first 6 weeks after birth are tender, raw, beautiful, and overwhelming. Your body is healing. Your hormones are shifting. You’re learning to care for a whole new person - while trying to remember who you are.
Here’s what to expect, one week at a time - and how to care for yourself in the process:
Your body is sore - from your belly or stitches, to your breasts and back. You may bleed a lot. You’re feeding around the clock. Crying (your baby’s and yours) is common.
#Give yourself permission to rest. Accept help. Prioritize healing.
Engorgement, cracked nipples, cluster feeding… it can feel non-stop. You might worry about your supply.
#This is normal. Seek lactation support. Keep drinking water and eating nourishing foods.
You might feel up one moment and weepy the next. Hormones are settling, and sleep deprivation peaks.
# It’s okay to not feel okay. Talk to someone. Cry if you need to. You're not alone.
You may still look pregnant. Your clothes don’t fit. You may feel disconnected from your body.
# Be gentle. Your body just did something powerful. Honour it - no pressure to bounce back.
Baby might sleep slightly better. You know their cries. But you’re still healing.
# Let go of perfection. If everyone is fed and safe, you’re doing great.
Your doctor may “clear” you for normal activity, but you may not feel ready. That’s valid.
Recovery is not one-size-fits-all. Trust your pace. You’re already showing up every day - and that’s more than enough.
The first 6 weeks are not just about surviving - they’re about learning to mother while healing yourself.
At Avnita, we walk this path with you - with care, not comparison.
